What Does Our Future Society Look Like?

Harmony, teamwork, and resilience are three key qualities that our future societies will embody. Eventually we will focus our efforts on terraforming, but for the few first hundred years, we will form a mostly underground society out of pods. By building our housing pods around a giant dome-shaped “central pod”, we will create as strong sense of community; this will help us get through the many challenges we will inevitably face on mars. Most everything the Martians need will be easily accessible via their central pod. This giant pod will be complete with a fully equipped gym, a school and daycare, dining halls, a small hospital, a recreation room, and much more. As our community grows bigger, we will make new pod groups, and each will still be in strong contact with each other. Schools will be very small, and students will quickly learn everything they need to know about mars. Once students are ready to choose a career path, they will be assigned a personal mentor who will guide them to getting their dream job. We will also strive to stay in strong connection with Earth. All in all, our future Mars society will pursue excellence and encourage personal passions.

How Will We Sustain Our Colony?

We will strive to not only sustain mars, but to ensure it thrives. Ultimately, our end goal is to terraform. This way, our future martians will be able to go outside and breath fresh air like we so easily do now. Then, we will be able to grow crops (and possibly animals) to eat; By doing this, we will become a fully self sustainable and thriving planet. Terraforming will take thousands of years to complete so our society will start by  living mostly underground in pods. To build these pods, we will use materials found on mars (such as basalt). We will live underground as the surface of mars is a natural protectant. Our scientists and farmers will work extensively to find ways of growing crops on mars, but for the first years, our astronauts will eat freeze dried food. We will use large solar panels for a renewable energy source. We will do what it takes to make sure mars becomes a healthy, self-sustaining planet for all it’s inhabitants.

Why Are We Going to Mars

It is human nature to evolve, that’s our nature. We need to learn, grow and experience. We need to expand, to the red planet. Mars would another opportunity to evolve, to understand the curious universe around us. Mars may be our savior in the future. We live in a world filled with global warming, overpopulation and pollution given by our older generations. Mars can be our safe haven, the place were we can escape the problems we created on Earth. Buzz Aldrin once said, “Mars is there waiting to be reached”. As a crew we need to reach Mars to explore unknown territory, create a back-up plan for humans and meet our next step in evolving, mentally.

How Are We Getting to Mars?

One of the most important parts of our quest to colonize Mars is actually getting off our current planet. We are planning to start our journey of exploring the unknown and evolving throughout of the universe in the late 2030s. Travel time will be eight to nine months, so we will games, movies and a gym to insure that crew members stay healthy mentally and physically. To physically get to Mars will be using a 3 Stage Rocket. This rocket will allow us to accelerate further than if the boosters were still attached. We will also be able to use a different type of rocket motor. For fuel for our rocket we will use Raptor Engines. This engine consist of Liquid Methane and Liquid Oxygen.
